What constitutes appropriate education and training in implant dentistry? What competencies are required, where and how can these be accquired and who will validate them? Where is the current debate on the registration of additional qualifications leading?
Delegates at the inaugural symposium of the BSOI heard these topics debated by leading academics and clinicians from the UK and by all accounts the Inaugural Symposium was a tremendous success. The next BSOI Symposium is in the pipeline and promises to be an even more prestigious event.
The BSOI is very carefully being built block by block based on the Society's ethos of Education, Communication and Integrity. This will result in the production of a robust organization that members will be proud to be a part of.
Keep an eye on the Events Calendar as details of Study Club Meetings are added.
Members should note that most course organizers offer discount to BSOI members. This is not always clearly advertised at present so ALWAYS ASK and if you have even the slightest problem do not commit to the course and contact the BSOI office immediately!
The online library and forum for members has been re-designed. Members are encouraged to upload case studies and other relevant documents to the library and to comment on the variety of data already there.
An Education section has been added in the main menu. After all, the ethos of the BSOI is Education, Communication and Integrity. Only an idiot could ignore the the changes in information technology relevant to education. Education in itself is changing and the term "blended learning " is becoming commonplace. The BSOI committee fully appreciate these changes and will endeavour to incorporate them into the BSOI in a fashion that will benefit members and the public. The newly added Videos section for BSOI members makes further use of the information technology available today to help disseminate educational material.
The BSOI Events calendar is also an invaluable resource and has been recently updated to the most recent software available - simply submit details of meetings or courses by clicking on the relevant date and following the online prompts. (This facility is available to everyone although inclusion on the calendar is at the discretion of the Advisory Panel).
