The British Society of Oral Implantology was founded in 2005 as a non-profit making organisation dedicated to the advancement of education and training in the field of Dental Implantology in the UK. Founded on an ethos of EDUCATION, COMMUNICATION and INTEGRITY the BSOI offers support and guidance for Practitioners in implant dentistry and more importantly those new to implant dentistry as well as advice and guidance to the general public.

 

The Society is proud to have as its inaugural President Professor St. John Crean,BDS MBBS FDSRCS FFGDP(UK) FRCS (Eng)FRCS (OMFS) PhD

Professor Crean has been appointed Director of Dental Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) from October 2009. St.John is extensively published and the holder of numerous prizes and awards. He is the Robert Bradlaw Advisor for the Faculty of Dental Surgery and MFDS examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. St John has extensive teaching experience he is also Co-coordinator for the Faculty of Dentistry Royal College of Surgeons Study days and MFDS revision days, at the RCS London. He is a world-leading expert in grafting and reconstructive maxillofacial surgery.

The Advisory Panel to the British Society of Oral Implantology brings together leaders from the primary and secondary healthcare sectors. Clinicians also involved in education. The wealth of knowledge offered by these clinicians combined with the membership structure of the Society will greatly assist practitioners in their quest to acquire appropriate education in this exciting field.

The BSOI mission statement succinctly describes the purpose of the organisation –
“To foster and support the professional development of those involved in Implantology through a structured membership scheme that encourages personal achievement and values experience.”

Ultimately this will benefit both the practitioner and the patient.
