All levels of BSOI membership are rigorously controlled. Please refer to the appropriate membership level listed below for criteria that must be met for membership at that level.

MEMBER

Open to any individual directly connected with clinical dentistry or dental research. Dentists, dental auxiliaries, dental hygienists, dental nurses, dental technicians, dental students.

FELLOW

Available to those who can provide evidence of postgraduate education in the field of implant dentistry through a BSOI recognised course with a minimum duration of one year and on submission of ten cases.

Requirements:

1. Applicants should be registered with the United Kingdom General Dental Council or equivalent Professional body.
2. Provide details (defined below) of ten completed cases all of which must have been in function for a minimum of one year.

Details;
Cases should be identified by a reference number e.g. case 01 and not the name of the patient.

Copies of pre and postoperative radiographs along with copies of radiograph(s) of the prosthesis after at least one year in function.

3. Submit a current Curriculum Vitae.
4. Submit a written, signed declaration that the details of the cases submitted are the work of the applicant. In cases where the applicant only places or only restores implants the declaration must indicate the involvement of the applicant and be signed by both parties.

Fellowship Maintenance Requirements:

All BSOI Fellows must be able to provide evidence of completion of a minimum of 75 hours of “implant education” within 5 years of becoming a BSOI Fellow and every 5 years thereafter. These hours may be accumulated through:

1. Attendance at Implant symposia
2. Implant lectures or study clubs
3. Published Implant articles in recognised journals. Articles published in a refereed journal will accumulate 20 hours per article; those published in a non-refereed journal will accumulate 10 hours.

DIPLOMATE

Available to those with a postgraduate qualification related to Implant Dentistry registrable with the UK General Dental Council or equivalent professional body and on submission of 10 cases 3 of which fulfil BSOI criteria for a complex case (defined below). ). All cases must have been in function for at least three years. Minimum case submission details are pre-operative radiographs and post-operative radiographs of the prosthesis(es) after at least three years in function.

1. Complex case criteria;
Cases involving each or any of the following;
- More than four units (one unit equivalent to one tooth)
- Indirect or direct sinus augmentation
- Site augmentation involving autogfraft, allograft, alloplast or xenograft plus membrane
- Osteogenic distraction
- Other restorative/reconstructive procedures involved with implant treatment ----please describe.

2. Applicants should be registered with the United Kingdom General Dental Council.
3. Submit a current Curriculum Vitae.
4. Submit a written, signed declaration that the details of the cases submitted are the work of the applicant. In cases where the applicant only places or only restores implants the declaration must indicate the involvement of the applicant and be signed by both parties.

Diplomate Maintenance Requirements:

All BSOI Diplomates must be able to provide evidence of completion of a minimum of 100 hours of “implant education” within 5 years of becoming a BSOI Diplomate and every 5 years thereafter. These hours may be accumulated through:

1. Attendance at Implant symposia
2. Implant lectures or study clubs
3. Published Implant articles in recognised journals. Articles published in a refereed journal will accumulate 20 hours per article; those published in a non-refereed journal will accumulate 10 hours.
4. Delivery of lecture(s), seminar or table clinic at BSOI conference 25 hours per presentation.

ACADEMIC

Available to those directly involved in University based education of students of implant dentistry.
Requirements:

1. Applicants should be registered with the United Kingdom General Dental Council or equivalent professional body.
2. Applicants should provide details of the position held with the University and a brief description of their role within the teaching curriculum.
3. Submit a current Curriculum Vitae.

CONSULTING

Available to those who fulfil the criteria for Diplomate and Academic status and who can be called upon to scrutinise submissions for Fellow or Diplomate membership.

COMPANY

Available to any company supplying materials or components directly relating to implant dentistry.

HONORARY LIFE

By invitation to those who have pioneered the field of Implant Dentistry as clinicians and teachers for the benefit of the public and the profession.

INTERNATIONAL

Available to non UK / Ireland residents.
